Have you ever opened a bill? Glanced at the number and felt your stomach drop into your shoes? You see an amount so big that you wonder how on earth am I ever going to pay this? Romans chapter six, verse 23 reminds us that every one of us faces a spiritual bill.

The apostle Paul writes, for the wages of sin is death. It's the consequence of sin. A price we simply can't afford to pay on our own. And sin doesn't just lead to physical death. It means spiritual separation from God, both now and forever. That sounds like a hopeless situation, doesn't it? But thankfully, Paul doesn't leave us hanging there in despair.

In the same breath, he goes on to say, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. In other words, the debt of sin that bill that we could never pay has been settled in full by Jesus. Because Christ has won the victory over death. We have eternal life. It's not something we earn.

It's a gift of pure grace. The resurrection of Jesus changes absolutely everything. What looked like total defeat on Good Friday became glorious. Victory on Easter Sunday because Jesus conquered death. Death no longer has the final word over us. Paul celebrates this incredible truth in verse Corinthians chapter 15 and verses 55 to 57. O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting? But thank God he gives us victory over sin and death. Through our Lord Jesus Christ. And here's the part that I love. This isn't just about what happens after we die. Eternal life starts right now. It reshapes how we live every day, filling us with courage, joy, and purpose, even when life is hard.

So how can we live differently? Because Christ is defeated. Death. That's me. Let me share a few practical ways. Firstly, refuse to live in fear. Death is no longer the end of the story. When fear creeps in anyway, declare out loud. Jesus has won the victory. Next, invest in what matters most. Eternal life changes our priorities. Loving people.

Deepening relationships and sharing the gospel become our highest calling. Thirdly, talk about hope. Don't shy away from conversations about eternity. Your story might be exactly the encouragement that someone else desperately needs. Four. Find comfort in grief. When we lose loved ones who knew Christ, we grieve. Yes, of course, but we grieve with hope. A glorious reunion is coming.

And finally, celebrate the small glimpses of resurrection you see, every time God brings joy out of sorrow or hope out of despair. It's a reminder that resurrection power is already at work here and now. When we know that eternal life is secure, we can live boldly, even when our earthly bodies fail us. And let's face it, they will.

Our souls remain anchored in Christ's victory. No matter how broken the world seems, the empty tomb declares this powerful truth. God always has a final word. Because Jesus lives, so do we. So let us hold tightly to that promise today and share it with a world that is longing for hope. Let's pray together. Father, fill my heart with joy, knowing that death has been defeated and that eternal life is mine through Christ.
