Hello. I'm so glad you've join me today. This week we're beginning a new series called Hidden Riches discovering treasure in life's Darkest Moments. And I want to start today with a question that might feel uncomfortable. Have you ever felt like life has spiraled completely out of control? Maybe you're listening to this feeling like everything that could go wrong has gone wrong, and you're wondering whether anyone, including God, actually has any control over what's happening in your world.

I've been there. I think we all have. And today, I want to share something that might transform how you view those messy and chaotic seasons. God's divine sovereignty encompasses every aspect of our human experience, not just the good bits, not just the seasons of abundance, but also the valleys of despair, the moments of confusion, the times when everything feels like it's falling apart.

Let me tell you about Christian Aid's work responding to crises around the world. What struck me is that when disasters strike, they don't waste time questioning whether God is present in the crisis. Instead, they respond with faith that he is already at work through local churches and communities, bringing hope from despair and restoration from destruction. Our Scripture today comes from Isaiah chapter 45, verse seven.

I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the Lord. I'm the one who does these things. When I first read this verse, I'll be honest, it made me uncomfortable. After all, we prefer a God who only sends good times, wouldn't we? But Isaiah reveals something far deeper here. God's sovereignty isn't selective.

He doesn't disappear during our difficulties or limit his authority to our comfortable circumstances. Let me share something personal with you. I have found that some of the deepest spiritual growth in my life has occurred during seasons when I couldn't see clearly, when I had to depend entirely on God's character rather than my own understanding. The darkness became a sacred space where faith deepened.

God's sovereignty remains constant, regardless of our circumstances. It's like a steady anchor in the storm of life's unpretty ability. When we face seasons of darkness, we often question whether God is still in control, whether his plans have somehow been derailed by our difficulty. And yet, Isaiah's words remind us that the same God who creates light also permits darkness.

Not because he abandons us, but as part of his comprehensive authority over all things. Think about Cyrus, the Persian king whom God designated as my Anointed One despite his pagan beliefs. Through this unlikely instrument, God accomplished the liberation of Israel from Babylonian captivity. Now, if divine purposes can be fulfilled through an unbeliever and foreign ruler, how much more can God work through the challenging circumstances of our lives?

Your current darkness isn't evidence that God has abandoned you. Instead, it may well be the precise context God has chosen for his most significant work in your life. Our understanding of God's ways is limited, but his faithfulness is absolute. We often see fragments of his plan. Yet his commitment to us remains unwavering. This tension between our human perspective and his divine wisdom calls us to trust not in our ability to understand his methods, but in his proven character and steadfast love.

So here's what I want to challenge you with today. Take a moment to acknowledge God's sovereignty over your current circumstances. Whatever you're facing, financial pressure, relationship difficulties, health concerns, just uncertainty about the future. Trust in his sovereignty. Take one step forward today, trusting that he is actively working through your situation, even when you cannot sense his activity. As we wrap up today, consider this how has God's sovereignty been evident in past difficult seasons?

And what would change if you genuinely believed God was working through your current circumstances? Let's pray together. Father, help us to trust in your sovereignty over every season of our lives. When darkness comes, remind us that you are still in control. When we cannot see the way forward. Help us to lean on your character rather than on our understanding.

Thank you that you can work through any circumstance to accomplish your purposes. Amen. Thanks for joining me today. I'll be back tomorrow as we explore what it means to be personally known by the creator of the universe.
