Growing Through What You Face | Daily Christian Devotional by Rob Westwood-Payne
Is your goal simply to survive your current difficulties, or are you open to being transformed through them?
#BattleDrillDaily #GrowthThroughStruggle #Transformation #Faith
In our final Battle Drill Daily Devotional of this series, we explore how God's intention for our struggles extends beyond mere survival to genuine transformation. Aid to the Church in Need's 2024 report demonstrates something remarkable - believers facing extreme hardship often develop spiritual maturity, compassion, and ministry effectiveness impossible through comfortable circumstances.
Through Romans 8:28, we discover that whilst this verse doesn't promise all circumstances are inherently good, it does promise God can work through all circumstances to produce good in those who love him. As we've explored this week, spiritual growth often occurs through challenging circumstances because difficulty strips away superficial concerns, revealing our true spiritual condition.
This episode examines how God's purposes include character development, not just situational change - he's more concerned with who we become than what we achieve. Our struggles can become foundations for our most significant spiritual contributions, transforming pain into platforms for ministry. Like persecuted Christians who develop extraordinary faith despite imprisonment and violence, we too can grow through difficulties rather than merely surviving them.
Scripture: "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them" (Romans 8:28 NLT).
Call to Action: Before sleep tonight, ask God "What do you want me to learn through this season?" then listen - your current challenges might be the classroom for your most important spiritual education.

Welcome to our final episode for this week. Thank you for joining me on this journey through hidden Riches. Today, I want to ask you a crucial question. Is your goal simply to survive your current difficulties, or are you open to being transformed through them? God's intention for our struggles extends beyond mere survival to genuine transformation. Aid to the Church in Need's 2024 report on persecuted Christians worldwide demonstrates something remarkable.

Believers who face extreme hardship often develop spiritual maturity, compassion, and ministry effectiveness that would be impossible through comfortable circumstance choices. Our scripture today comes from Romans chapter eight, verse 28, and we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Now, this verse doesn't promise that all circumstances are inherently good, but it does promise that God can work through all circumstances to produce good in those who love him.

As we thought about throughout this week, spiritual growth often occurs through challenging circumstances, not despite them, because difficulty strips away the superficial concerns we have and reveals our true spiritual condition. When life is comfortable, we may spiritually coast, but when challenge is pressing, we discover whether our faith is genuine or merely academic. These pressures then become catalysts for authentic spiritual development, forcing us to rely more completely on God's strength rather than our own resources.

God's purposes include character development, not just a change in our situation, because he's more concerned with who we become than what we achieve. While we often pray to God to change our situations. He may be much more interested in changing us through them, however difficult they may be. This divine focused on character formation means that our struggles serve a redemptive purpose.

They're not meaningless suffering, but meaningful shaping. Our struggles can become the foundation for our most significant spiritual contributions. Transforming our pain into platforms for ministry and service. The very experiences that once threatened to destroy us can become the source of our greatest effectiveness in serving others. This transformation doesn't minimize our pain, but it does maximize its purpose, allowing our difficulties to become doorways through which God's grace flows to others facing similar challenges.

The persecuted Christians documented in aid to the Church in Need's report demonstrate this powerfully. Despite facing imprisonment, violence, and discrimination. Many develop extraordinary faith, compassion and effective ministry. Their suffering becomes the context for spiritual growth that transforms not only their own lives, but impacts entire communities. Cyrus didn't merely survive his challenges. He grew through them, becoming more influential and accomplishing purposes that extended far beyond his immediate circumstances.

Similarly, God intends to use your current difficulties for growth that benefits both you and others. Growth through our difficulties requires intentional cooperation with God's transformative work. This means asking not just how on earth do I escape this, but how do I grow through this? It means looking for lessons. Seeking for hidden treasures and finding purposes within the struggle itself.

Are you willing to believe that God wants to use your current circumstances to develop something beautiful in you? Can you trust that he's not wasting your pain, but transforming it into purpose? Before you go to sleep tonight. I want you to ask God this question. What do you want me to learn through this season? Then pause for a while and listen for his response.

Your current challenges might just be the classroom. So your most important spiritual education. This week we've explored how God brings treasure from our darkest moments through his sovereignty, his personal knowledge of us, his nearness in crisis, the genuine treasures hidden in darkness, the power of community, the invitation to trust in uncertain tea, and the opportunity to grow through our struggles.

Remember, you're not just surviving your struggles. You're growing through them. God sees treasure in your darkness that you cannot see for yourself.

Let's pray together. One final time this week. Father, thank you for this week's journey together. Help us to trust in your sovereignty. To remember that we are known by name. To recognize your nearness in crisis. To discover the treasures hidden in our darkness. To embrace community support. To trust you in uncertainty and to grow through our struggles. Use our difficulties for your glory and for the good of others.

Amen. Until next time. Remember God knows your name and he wants you to discover the hidden riches he's prepared for you. God bless you.
