Research reveals that just two hours weekly in green spaces significantly improves psychological wellbeing, confirming what Psalm 19:1 declared millennia ago: "The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship." This episode addresses nature deficit disorder - our disconnection from the natural world that God designed as his first cathedral.
From the Wilderness Ministry Institute's global impact across 40 countries to the Salvation Army's transformative camping programmes serving over 100,000 people annually, we discover how creation provides what our souls desperately need: rhythm instead of rush, beauty instead of bombardment, peace instead of pressure.
Jesus regularly withdrew to natural settings for spiritual renewal. If the Son of God needed creation sanctuary for communion with his Father, how much more do we need these sacred appointments? You don't need exotic wilderness adventures - a local park, garden corner, or window view can become sacred space when approached with expectant hearts.
Scripture Focus: Psalm 19:1 (NLT) Practical Challenge: Schedule one 20-minute "creation appointment" this week - simply being present to God through nature without devices.
Step into God's original design for human flourishing and discover how regular time in creation can transform your relationship with the Creator.

When did you last pause to truly notice a tree, or to feel the grass beneath your feet, or to watch the clouds drift by without simultaneously checking your phone? If you're struggling to remember, then you're experiencing what researchers call nature deficit disorder. Listen to what the psalmist declares the heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19, verse one. God designed creation to be his first cathedral, a sacred space where his presence can be encountered tangibly through beauty, peace and wonder. The University of Exeter, his recent groundbreaking study revealed that those spending just two hours weekly in green spaces, reported signify better health and psychological well-being. Science is confirming what Scripture declared millennia ago. Creation heals us. Consider for a moment the Wilderness Ministry Institute's global impact. They now train leaders in over 40 countries, combining scientific understanding with Christian discipleship through what they call transformational wilderness experiences. Their programs create encounters with community, adventure, beauty, and ultimately with God himself. Helping young people to build deep relationships whilst teaching about God in ways that will impact them forever. The Salvation Army understands this truth, too. In the United States, for example, we operate over 50 camps serving more than 100,000 people annually from many different walks of life. At Camp Rappahannock, children from urban areas experienced transformative first encounters with nature swimming in lakes, seeing star filled skies, and discovering that camp changes lives through full immersion in God's creation. But here's what strikes me the most. God meets us in simple, accessible moments. You don't need exotic wilderness adventures or expensive retreats. A local park, a corner of your garden, or even a window view can become sacred space. When we approach them with expectant hearts. Creation offers us what our souls desperately need. Rhythm instead of rush. Beauty instead of bombardment. Peace instead of pressure. When we step into natural settings, we enter God's original design for human flourishing. Jesus regularly withdrew to natural settings for spiritual renewal. Now, if the Son of God needed creation sanctuary for communion with His father, how much more then do we need these sacred appointments? So why not schedule one creation appointment this week 20 minutes outside, without your devices simply being present to God through nature? Your soul will be glad you did. As we close today, think about this how might regular time and creation change your relationship with God?
