What are you clinging to that’s keeping you from peace?

#BattleDrillDevotional #LetGoAndLive #JesusWay

Today’s Battle Drill Daily Devotional asks a tough but freeing question: What are you holding too tightly? Drawing from Philippians 2, we reflect on Jesus’ example of surrender - how he let go of privilege to embrace humility. When we cling to control, comfort, or image, we end up carrying burdens we were never meant to bear.

Jesus invites us to lay it down. To trust his way of downward movement. This devotional offers a pastoral challenge: real life starts when we stop grasping and start trusting. That’s where freedom begins.

Hello again. Can I ask you, what are you holding on to today? Maybe it's the plans you've made. Perhaps it's your reputation. My. Maybe it's a sense of being in control. Or perhaps it's just the need to keep everything together. I think we all wrestle with the urge to cling to secure what's ours. But Jesus shows us something radically different.

Paul writes. Instead, Jesus gave up his divine privileges. He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. Philippians chapter two, verse seven. Jesus, fully God chose to let go. He didn't hang on to power. Instead, he emptied himself not to lose, but to love. Not to grasp, but to trust the father's abundance.

And through that surrender, you and I receive life. Grace. A kingdom that cannot be shaken. It's remarkable. In Luke's gospel, we hear these words. It gives your father great happiness to give you the kingdom. God is not withholding good things until we earn them. He delights to give to us. But here's the tension we live with. We often can't receive because our hands are full.

Full of fear. Full of striving. Full of comfort. That we're just too scared to lose. I've seen it in my own life. Times when I've planned and protected and tried to control outcomes, especially in ministry. But it's only when I've opened my hands, even just a little, that grace has arrived. Provision came. Peace returned. Learning to let go isn't failure.

It's trust. And we have to be honest. It's hard. We worry about what will happen if we stop striving. But Jesus didn't empty himself recklessly. He did it in faith. And the father honored it. He'll honor it in your life, too. So maybe today's invitation is simple but challenging. Stop grasping. Start trusting. Let go. Not to lose, but to make space for the kingdom.

Here's your reflection to carry with you. What might God be asking you to release today so that you can receive more of him?

Let's pray. Lord Jesus, teach me the way of surrender. Help me to let go of the things I hold too tightly. Not in fear, but in faith. I want to walk your path open handed, open hearted, ready to receive your grace. In your name I pray. Amen. Come back tomorrow as we explore what it means to treasure God's Word above anything else.

Until then, may you find peace in letting go.
