God’s Grace Won’t Give Up on You | Battle Drill Devotional (5-Minute Salvation Army Devotional)
Scripture Reference: Luke 12:38 (NLT)
Even when you feel late, distant, or distracted, God’s grace is already at your door - waiting, knocking, and still calling your name.
#BattleDrillDevotional #GodsGrace #FaithInRealLife
In this episode of the Battle Drill Devotional, we reflect on Jesus’ parable in Luke 12:38, where he describes servants staying ready for their master’s return - even in the middle of the night. But this is not just a call to spiritual alertness. It’s a picture of God’s relentless, never-tiring grace. You may feel like you’ve missed the moment - too busy, too ashamed, too far gone - but Jesus reminds us that it’s never too late. His grace still shows up. Again and again.
The gospel is not about climbing a ladder to reach God - it’s about the God who comes down, who keeps showing up, even in the quiet hours when we feel we’ve missed our chance. In The Salvation Army’s daily work - from food banks to street outreach - we see this grace meet people right where they are. It finds the exhausted, the angry, the addicted, the lonely - and says, “I’m still here.”
You don’t need to come perfectly. You don’t need all the answers. You only need to open the door.

Hello again. Have you ever missed something important? A train, a birthday. A moment you really meant to show up for. But somehow it passed you by. Life doesn't to us sometimes, doesn't it? We oversleep. We get distracted. We think we've got more time than we really do. Jesus tells a story about servants waiting for their master. He may come in the middle of the night, he says.

Or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready. Luke chapter 12, verse 38. Jesus is clear he is coming, but it might not be when we expect. It might be in the quiet hours, in the weary stretches. But still he invites us to be ready. This isn't just a story about us being prepared, though.

It's also about God's relentless grace. His grace doesn't tire. It doesn't miss a step. It keeps on coming. We often picture faith like we're the ones climbing up to God, struggling, sweating, reaching up towards him. But the gospel flips that image. God has already coming down. He's knocking. He's waiting. Not with frustration, but with love. And here's what Grace sounds like.

I'll come again and again and again. Until you know you're loved.

I've seen this in people who run far and fast from God. Years of anger. Bouts of shame, of apathy. But when they finally stopped running, Grace was already there. Waiting. Watching. Not moved an inch. In the Salvation Army, I see grace show up in so many unexpected places a drop in center, a food bank, even on a street corner.

People broken by addiction, by trauma, by loneliness. And grace still finds a way in.

Maybe today you feel like you've missed your chance. Like you've overslept spiritually. Like God has moved on from you. But my dear, dear friend, he hasn't. Whether it's the first watch or the fourth. Jesus is still on the doorstep. His grace hasn't quit. So what does it mean to be ready? It means to open the door. Not perfectly.

Not with all the answers. Just honestly. Saying, Lord, I'm here. Even if I'm struggling. Even if I'm late. You don't have to climb the ladder. You don't have to chase him down. He's already come for you. Just open the door.

Here's your thought for the day. Where do you see God's grace at work in your life right now? Join with me in prayer. Lord, thank you that you never give up on us. Thank you that your grace keeps reaching even in the dark. Help me to open my heart to your love today. To trust that you are still near.

Still coming and still calling. Amen.
