It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the injustice we see around us - another war, another news headline, another decision that seems to crush the vulnerable. But what if those feelings of anger, sorrow, or numbness aren’t signs of weakness, but holy signals? In Esther 4:7–8 (NLT), Mordecai’s challenge to Esther cuts through our reluctance: Don’t hide. Don’t stay silent. Speak. Act.
This episode unpacks Esther’s pivotal moment of calling and helps us connect it to our own lives. Whether you’re a parent at home, a student at school, or a leader in The Salvation Army, God may be stirring something holy in you. He may be inviting you to step forward into hard places - just like Jesus did when he touched the outcast, healed the broken, and challenged those who exploited the poor.
We reflect on what it means to resist the stronghold of injustice, even when it costs. And we’re reminded that justice doesn’t begin in loud protests or grand plans - it begins when we stop looking away. When we say yes to God’s Spirit stirring in us.
Are you wondering how to respond when the world feels so broken? This devotional encourages you to ask, “What would you have me do, Lord?” and to listen with a heart ready to act.

Welcome back. I'm glad you've joined me again today. Have you ever looked at the world and thought, this isn't right? Maybe you've seen someone treated unfairly, or you've watched someone suffer because of another person's bad choices. Maybe the news has left you angry or numb. Another war. Another policy that tramples on the vulnerable. Another injustice left unchallenged. If that's you, then you're not alone. Esther felt it too. Mordecai gave a copy of the decree issued in Susa that called for the death of all Jews. He asked Hatake to show it to Esther and explain the situation to her. He also asked her to direct her to go to the king, to beg for mercy and plead for her people. Esther, chapter four, verses seven and eight. God made you in his image so that eight you feel when things are wrong. It's not weakness. It's a holy signal. It's the spirit stirring in you. Longing for what God longs for. A world of justice. A world of mercy and a world of peace. But justice isn't just about noticing what's wrong. It's about stepping into it, even when it's costly. That's what Mordecai was asking of Esther. Not to hide, not to stay silent, but to speak out. To act. And let's be honest, that's the hard part, isn't it? There are moments when silence feels easier, when we think, well, who am I to speak up? Or someone else will handle it? But the stronghold of injustice thrives when God's people stay quiet. God doesn't call us to comfort. He calls us to courage. Esther felt fear. She knew the risk. But something stirred in her. Something holy. And she rose. Now, you and I might not be royalty, but we still carry influence at work, in our families, in our communities, even in our army halls. The question is, what will we do with it? Jesus showed us the way. He flipped tables when the poor were exploited. He healed the outcast. He touched those the world ignored. He saw injustice and he stepped right into it. So the next time injustice makes you feel helpless. Remember this. You're not powerless. You have a voice, a calling. You have a choice. Ask God. What would you have me do? Then listen. Then act. Because justice starts when we stop looking away. Let's pray together. God have mercy. Open my eyes to the injustice around me. Give me the courage to speak up. The wisdom to act wisely. And the grace to do it all in your name. Make me a voice for those who aren't heard. And a light in dark places. In Jesus name, Amen. As we close today, think about this. Where is God inviting me to speak up or to act for justice today? Even if it feels costly or hard.
