Hello and welcome! Today we're thinking about what helps you move forward in faith and obedience. When your circumstances seem difficult or dire. Sometimes life just shakes us hard. It could be a diagnosis you didn't expect. A relationship that breaks down the loss of a job. The storm that you never saw coming. And in the middle of it, it feels as if the ground has been pulled away from under your feet. So what do you do when your safe place isn't safe anymore? The psalmist knew exactly that feeling in Psalm 46, verses one and two we read. God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble, so we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Earthquakes and falling mountains. This is not gentle language. It's not about the small inconvenience of life. This is about chaos. It's about the moment when everything that you relied on gives way. And yet right there in the middle of the turmoil. Is God strong? Steady and close. What helps you move forward in faith and obedience when your circumstances seem difficult or dire? It isn't willpower. It isn't pretending that everything's fine. It's remembering who God is. God is still your refuge when nothing feels safe. He's still your strength. When your own strength is gone and he's ready, not reluctant to help you. In my ministry, I often find myself beside people in the middle of their hardest moments. Sometimes those moments stay with me, weighing on my own heart. But Psalm 46 has often been an anchor. It reminds me that I'm never alone. And neither are you. The same God who holds back the waves can hold you when everything else feels like it's slipping through your fingers. I remember sitting with someone after their spouse had passed away. They felt like life had just unraveled completely. There was nothing I could say to make that moment better, but I could sit with them. I could hold their hand and I could pray this psalm over them. They didn't respond much at the time. Grief can often leave you speechless. But later they did tell me that those words had given them something to hold on to a foothold. If you like a handhold, something steady in a shaking world. Sometimes our faith is just that. It's not about moving mountains yourself. It's about gripping God's promises with both hands and refusing to let go. So maybe today your soul feels like it's sliding. Maybe the pressure is high. Then your heart feels fragile. If so, then stop. Take a breath. Let God be your shelter. He hasn't moved. His strength hasn't changed. And he's right here, ready to help you. God doesn't wait for the chaos to calm down before he draws near us. He comes right into it with you. That's what helps you move forward in faith and obedience when life feels impossible. Not your power, but his presence. Not the absence of trouble, but the certainty that God is still strong. When life falls apart. So here's your invitation for today. Run to him. Tell him exactly how you feel. Ask him to steady you and trust that he will. Today's thought starter is this. What would change if you trusted that God was your strength right now, before anything changes? Let's pray. Lord, when I feel like the world is crumbling around me. Help me to trust that you are still strong. Be my safe place. Be my steady ground. Even when life shakes. Help me keep my feet planted in your truth. In Jesus name, Amen. I'll see you next time as we take another step forward in following Jesus together.
