Hello and welcome. Today we're thinking about how to know God better. Not in theory, but in the middle of everyday life. Life moves pretty fast, doesn't it? Your diary fills up before the week even starts. Your phone pings every few minutes. People need you. Deadlines pressing. You want to know God better. But before you can even pause, the day runs away from me. You glance back and you realize that you've rushed through it all without him. Here's the good news. You don't need an empty week to meet with God. You don't even need an empty afternoon. You just need a few focused minutes. Stillness isn't a luxury for us. For the super spiritual, it's a lifeline for every follower of Jesus. Psalm 46, verse ten gives God's clear call to all of us. Be still and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world. This is not a polite suggestion from God. It's a holy command. Stop! Cease from rushing. Lay down the need to control. And in that stillness, know. Really know that he is God. You know I can tell the difference in my own life. The days that I skip stillness. Are the days that my soul feels thin. I'm quicker to worry. My patience wears out much sooner. My heart feels less steady. But ten quiet minutes with God. With my Bible open. With my heart open. Change the day I remember who he is and who I am. Peace returns and strength rises. Do you want to know how to know God better in a busy life? Start small. Pick one chair that you'll return to each day. Choose a time, perhaps at your morning break, over lunch, in the car, or last thing at night. Read a short passage. A psalm works well. Or one scene from the Gospels. Ask, Lord, what are you saying to me? Then sit in the silence. Breathe his name. Let one truth linger. End with a plain prayer. And one step of obedience. That's it. In the Salvation Army, we are often moving at full pace, serving meals, visiting homes, leading meetings, fixing problems. But you know, fruit doesn't grow from rush. It grows from roots, and roots grow in stillness. Ten faithful minutes with God each day will shape the other 23 hours. They'll teach your heart trust. They'll train your mind to listen. And they'll make room for his strength to meet your weakness. Think of those ten minutes as a fence for your own soul. A small boundary that keeps you safe and helps you rest. You're not trying to impress God. You're making space to receive from him. He's already nearby. He loves to meet you just as you are. Will ten minutes solve every problem? No, of course not. But they will change you in the middle of the problem. Stillness clears the fog. God's word gives you light for the next step. His presence quietens your fear. Over time, these small, steady choices build a deep life with him. So why not set a time today? Keep it simple. Be still. Know God. Then walk forward with what he gives you. Today's thought starter question is this. When can you give God ten quiet minutes? Today. And what small step will help you keep that daily rhythm? Let's pray. Lord, teach me to be still. I want to know you better in the middle of my busy day. Help me to stop, to listen and to trust you. Let your words shape my thoughts and your presence. Steady my heart. Lead me one faithful step at a time. In Jesus name, Amen. I'll see you next time as we take another step forward in following Jesus together.
