Today we're thinking about what to do when life feels too heavy to carry. Not that I could use another coffee. Kind of tired, but the deep down, soul level weariness that makes even small tasks feel like mountains. If that sounds familiar to you, then you're in the right place. It's robots of pain. And this is Battle Drill Daily devotional, five minutes of faith, hope and Salvation Army heritage. To start your day strong. I've learned the hard way that exhaustion isn't a badge of honor. It's a quiet invitation to hand the load over to Jesus. Let me tell you what's happened to me. My diary was bursting with work deadlines, family time, church commitments, and all sorts of other things. And if I'm honest, I pride that I could keep all those plates spinning. Then I began to notice that I couldn't even remember the most simple words. My mind was simply powering down. Perhaps you've had your own frozen moment when you finally realize that the weight feels just too much. Now the world shouts. Well push harder. Dream bigger. But Jesus whispers, come to me, all who are weary between those two voices. Burnout brings. But what if exhaustion isn't fake? What if it's an invitation? Picture an overloaded backpack. Every strap is digging into you. The zips are ready to burst. And now imagine God not scolding you for the mess, but gently lifting it off your shoulders. That's not weakness. That's wisdom. Surrender isn't giving up. It's giving it over. Isaiah chapter 40, verse 29 puts it plainly. God says, I give strength to the weary and power to the powerless. Notice the order he gives we receive. Verse 31 goes on to say, those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. Now the Hebrew words translated as trust here to that is impressive. It's like a child waiting by the door with their shoes already on, ready to run into dad zones. When we learn to trust like that, our strength is swapped for hits like fresh batteries in a torch. Eagles don't flap harder when they're tired. They catch the wind. It's the same for us too. So stop flapping and start soaring. Here are three gentle steps that you can try today. Firstly, decide daily. Each morning say out loud. God, today I choose your way, not my overload. The words we say matter. Secondly, set surrender alarms. Pick three times when your phone already buzzes during the day. Maybe 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m.. And when it does, breathe a short prayer. I release what I can't control. Those tiny pauses soon add up. Three. Remember past rescues. Name one time that God showed up to you before a bill paid a panic attack. Stilled a friendship restored. Whatever. Write it on a post-it note for a mirror. Recalling his faithfulness feels future trust. Now, let's be honest. Surrender isn't a one time call for a response. It's a daily habit. Some days I still grip my calendar with white knuckles, but every time I loosen my grip, peace slips in. Somehow the emails still get answered to the sermon, still get written, but I'm not running on fumes. I'm running on grace and state. So let's recap. Burnout isn't your destiny. It's a detour. God isn't asking you to try harder. He's asking you to hand over the backpack. So decide daily. Set surrender alarms. And remember his track record. As you do so, your soul will breathe deeper. Your pace will slow down. And his strength will surprise you. Let's pray together. Jesus. Thank you for every tired heart listening right now. Lift the weight we were never meant to carry. Teach us to wait on you. To run and to not grow weary. To walk and not faint. In your name. Amen.
