Romans. Chapter six, verse 16 says that we end up as slaves to whatever we decide to obey. Now, that might sound heavy, but Paul's just being honest. Hand the keys to the loudest voice in your head. And sooner or later it does drive you. Now, most mornings the choice is camouflaged phone or prayer, snooze or scripture. Nobody else sees it, but it's the rudder. Hi and welcome to Bathroom Drill Baby devotional. I'm Rabbi Supine, and today we're looking at a tiny decision that we all make before the kettle's even boiled, but one that over time steers the whole ship. You see, I've learned the hard way that doing what I want feels like freedom until the bill lands. Scientists call it delayed cost discounting. Scripture calls it sin. And the wage is a smaller, more anxious version of yourself. The more that we obey that impulse, the deeper the groove in the brain and the quieter the spirit feels. But here's the hopeful bit. A rudder only moves a few degrees to change course. One micro. Yes to God. Five minutes of whispered worship instead of Doomscrolling redirects the whole voyage. Here are three places that I still catch myself wrestling. Number one is those morning minutes. Who gets the first clear headed hello from me. Number two, those math moments. Will my next sentence build or will it bulldoze? And number three, the money map. Does the last bit of the budget belong to God or does it belong to my illusion of security? Pick one skirmish of your own this week. Victory! There becomes the foothold for the next. And here's a practical hack for you. When you feel the urge rising. Count to ten and breathe out the words I choose my master. That gap breaks the neural link and hands the keys back to the spirit. I've used it to stop texting someone in anger, and I'm sure my blood pressure thanked me and my prayers certainly stopped sounding like a courtroom drama. So if you're ready to choose your master today, why not comment? I decide my direction so that the algorithm knows this matters and your keyboard becomes an accountability partner. Real liberty isn't the absence of commands. It's the strength to walk past the ones that shrink your soul. When obedience becomes your default. You sleep deeper, you dream bigger, and you wake up willing to risk because you know the one who holds the map. So tomorrow, when the alarm sounds and the soft voice whispers. Just no more minutes. Remember, you are just one choice. Away from a different destiny. Hand the keys to the craving. And the chain tightens. Hand them to Christ and the chain drops off your heart before it even touches your wrists. Choose the master who gives you back yourself. Fully alive, fully free, fully headed towards the life you were actually designed to live.
