Have you ever noticed how the world practically hands us a script for how to respond when we're wronged? Snap back at them. Win the argument. Protect your image at all costs. But then Jesus comes along and says, blessed are the meek. And suddenly it feels like he's asking us to hand over our backbone. But what if meekness isn't weakness? What if it's strength that knows when to stay sheathed? Hi and welcome to Battle Drill Daily Devotional. I'm robots of pain and I'm here to help you start your day spiritually strong with a quick, powerful devotional from God's Word. Now, most of us hear the word meek and we picture someone who apologizes when you step on his foot. But Scripture flips that completely. The Greek word pious doesn't describe someone spineless. It pictures a stallion that's learned to carry a rider. So same power, new purpose, same muscle, different mission. Jesus even claims this trait for himself in Matthew chapter 11. I am gentle and lowly in heart. The one who spoke galaxies into existence calls himself meek. So clearly we're missing something. Peter helps us to see it more clearly. In first Peter chapter two, he writes, Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example. He committed no sin when he was insulted. He did not insult in return. He entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. So no screaming, no revenge plotting, no Twitter thread. Retaliation. Just surrendered strength. The cross wasn't a collapse. It was a choice. Infinite power. Zero retaliation. Now that's meekness. You know, in the Salvation Army, I've watched people transform not through force, but through this kind of surrendered strength. I've seen someone known for their sharp tongue learn to speak life instead of watch. Someone who used to explode in anger become a source of peace. Not because they became doormats, but because they learned to point their strength towards God's purposes instead of their own defense. So what does this mean for us today? Maybe you'll face cheaper seats at work. Well, someone less qualified gets promoted. Maybe there's gossip in the group chat, or that family member who always knows how to push your buttons. Your reflex wants to set the record straight to defend your honor, to grab what you deserve. But meekness says I know who I am and I know who's ultimately in charge. So here are three training grounds on which I'm learning to practice. First. Pause and pray. Feel that heat rising. Don't post. Don't roast. Pray first instead. Even 10s of breathing out your frustration to God can change everything. Second, surrender the timeline. State your case once, but then let God die. Rise the comeback. The earth is inherited by those who refuse to grab it. Third review the school picture every insult that Jesus absorbed. Ask yourself, did he leave anything unfinished? If not, then maybe I can sheath my sword to. I wonder which of these feels hardest for you right now. I'd love to hear in the comments. I do read everyone and I'll be praying for you this week. And if these daily devotionals help help you trade some hype for Hope, then please subscribe and share it with someone who thinks that nice guys are the ones who finish last. Let's pray. Spirit of Christ make us stallions under your bridle. When anger rears its head. Teach us to point every hoof beat towards justice, mercy and trust. Amen. Remember, meekness isn't losing your backbone. It's handing your backbone to the one who can aim it. True. Blessed are the meek. And because of Jesus, that blessing includes you.
