Pride never tells the truth. It promises far more than it ever delivers.
King David wanted to count his people, not for planning, but to weigh his own worth. Even Joab, hardly a model of godliness, could see it was a bad move. David pressed on anyway, and the result was loss, grief and regret. Yet when he came back to God in humility, mercy met him there, and that is the hope for every one of us today.
In today's five-minute devotional we look at how pride quietly pushes God to the edges of our lives, and why surrender is the antidote. It's choosing to kneel when we'd rather climb.
